BIOGRAPHY
Shiela R. Castillo is Futures Learning Advisor at the Center for Engaged Foresight. With CEF, she facilitated futures workshops for UNICEF Philippines, UN Cambodia, East-West Center Hawaii, the Forest Foundation Philippines, among others. She co-developed the futures card game Dreams and Disruptions with the CEF Team, as well as the synthesis tool Intimate Futures.
She is one of the co-founders of the Philippine Futures Thinking Society (PhilFutures) and currently Conference Secretary-General of the Asia Pacific Futures Network Virtual Conference 2020.
Before focusing on futures work, she was Technical Advisor of Let Us Create Futures, a child-focused non-profit in Cambodia. She also worked as an Organizational Development Specialist for VSO Cambodia, where she advised two provincial NGO networks in the provinces of Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri.
Ms Castillo worked as a social development professional and consultant in the Philippines for more than 15 years before working in Cambodia. She has been active in climate advocacy since 2011 as a Climate Reality Leader. She also served as a mentor in the Climate Reality Global Training in March 2016, July 2020, and August 2020. On Earth Day 2017, she was awarded the first Luntiang Dahon (Green Leaf) Award for Climate Leadership.
She has been maintaining an eponymous blog on WordPress since 2012 and has published some of her poetry, short stories, and articles in Philippine publications. In futures, she is most interested in action learning and intergenerational justice. She is an activist and speaker on veganism, the environment, and futures.
