THE EUROPEAN FUTURES OBSERVATORY |
|
Our Mission |
|
We see our mission as threefold.
First, we seek to develop a European School of Futures Studies. There is no general consensus on what it means to be ‘European’, so we wish to add a voice to that debate. The discipline of ‘Futures Studies’ is currently emerging, and we aim to chart the development of the discipline as it emerges.
Second, we wish to develop a series of pro bono projects that enable practitioners of Futures Studies to showcase their work and to experiment with new futures techniques. In this, we can provide a forum that will allow practitioners to demonstrate their work, both within the profession and to a wider audience. We also aim to provide a vehicle whereby new techniques and methods can obtain peer review.
Third, it is our wish to develop young talent within the profession. At present, we would undertake to do this through three vehicles. First, we have an Intern programme, where young people who wish to gain experience of futures work can take part in the pro bono programme. Second, we offer a mentoring facility to those members of the Association of Professional Futurists who wish to gain sufficient experience to become full members of the APF. Third, we sponsor groups of High School students who wish to engage with the future. These students are usually Student Members of the World Future Society (WFS).
